The bacterial oxidation of tryptophan. III. Enzymatic activities of cell-free extracts from bacteria employing the aromatic pathway.

چکیده
Analysis of the adaptive patterns of many tryptophan-oxidizing pseudomonads indicates that a majority of these organisms metabolize tryptophan via kynurenine, anthranilic acid, and catechol-the so-called "aromatic pathway" (Stanier, Hayaishi, and Tsuchida, 1951). In order to confirm the existence of this pathway, we have undertaken a study of the enzymatic activities of cellfree extracts. Only one previous investigation of the enzymes in pseudomonads that oxidize tryptophan by the aromatic pathway has been reported. Hayaishi and Hashimoto (1950) obtained a cell-free preparation that brought about the oxidation of catechol; the enzyme, named "pyrocatechase," was purified about 30-fold, and the product of the reaction with this purified system was identified as cis-cis-muconic acid.

The study was conducted to analyze the existence of bioactive phytochemicals extracts in green alga Scenedesmus dimorphus and their antimicrobial role. Various solvents such as methanol, ethanol, N-hegzane and diethylether were used for extraction. The extracts of of Scenedesmus dimorphus were tested against two Gram - positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Micrococcus luteus), a Gram - negat...
متن کاملCoupled photochemical and enzymatic Mn(II) oxidation pathways of a planktonic Roseobacter-Like bacterium.
Bacteria belonging to the Roseobacter clade of the alpha-Proteobacteria occupy a wide range of environmental niches and are numerically abundant in coastal waters. Here we reveal that Roseobacter-like bacteria may play a previously unrecognized role in the oxidation and cycling of manganese (Mn) in coastal waters. A diverse array of Mn(II)-oxidizing Roseobacter-like species were isolated from E...

L-Asparaginase has remarkable properties which make it useful in dual pharmaceutical and food industries. In this study, simple and advantageous method has been validated for rapid and precise determination of intracellular L-Asparaginasein bacterial species. A suspension of bacterial cells was used instead ofcell extract and incubated by substrate (asparagine) after simple wash and centrifugati...
متن کاملThe Conversion of Shikimic Acid to Anthranilic Acid by Extracts of Neurospora Crassa.
The role of shikimic acid as a common intermediate in the synthesis of phenylalanine, tyrosine, tryptophan, and p-aminobenzoic acid has been recognized for some time (l-3). The enzymes which catalyze the synthesis of shikimic acid from intermediates of carbohydrate metabolism have been observed in extracts of bacteria (4-6) as well as Neurospora crassa (7). On the other hand, the reactions lead...
